Why this blog? What is "smart"?
How do you get smart? How do kids get smart? I've asked all of these questions. I don't have all of the answers, but I have some ideas. The biggest and most complete idea is that you become smart by answering the little questions in your head, instead of ignoring them.
Once upon a time, this was my fate...
Today, this is still the fate of many of us without any access to the internet, but at least, Google and other tools exist to help find the information we seek. While were once too far from a library or a set of encyclopedias, now we have the potential to answer any old question that comes to to mind. Remember, no matter how stupid or mundane you believe them to be, your questions do not have to go unanswered.
What does all of this have to do with this site? Well, if you're familiar with the poem I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, by Maya Angelou, then you're on the right track.
My issue is about the Caged Nerd. The parent who yearns to learn more but doesn't know where to start. The child who wants more but doesn't have the guidance needed to begin. The grandfather who was kinda smart, but didn't have money, influence, or other resources to go further. The guy who society might label "least likely to be a scholar". No matter your background, your are entitled to learn more and more and more. Never allow anyone to shame you for having the desire to know more. This blog is here to encourage the men, women, and children who want more, but don't know where to start. This
